Enthusiastic Educator![]() I have North Carolina and Virginia certifications as a highly qualified teacher in middle grades (6-9) and secondary (9-12) mathematics. Since graduating in 2007 from Meredith College, I have enjoyed teaching in North Carolina and Virginia. Currently, I am pursuing a Master of Arts in Educational Technology from North Carolina Central University. Upon completion of the program, I will qualify for the following additional endorsements: Instructional Technology Specialist Computer License and Technology Endorsement.
In my resume (left margin), you will see that for almost 15 years, I taught mathematics to students in grades 8 through 12 in the following subject areas: Algebra I/Math I, Geometry/Math II, Algebra II/Math III and Advance Functions and Modeling. I am also an experienced tutor in the areas of elementary math to Pre-Calculus for the past 20 years. Each opportunity has challenged me to be creative, patient, enthusiastic, and most of all, nurturing. I am passionate about curriculum development and implementation because I believe it is how we ensure equity in our education systems. Every student regardless of location deserves an opportunity to engage in an interactive math experience that adequately lays the foundation for higher level math courses. Building positive relationships with my students has encouraged them to try again or to dig deeper in order to gain a better understanding of new skills and concepts and to make connections to past and future learning. My ability to create clear, concise and student-centered learning objectives and the knowledge of using innovative, appropriate and differentiated instructional methods makes math interesting to my students. I encourage learning and retention by using concrete and virtual manipulatives, hands-on activities, and various forms of technology such as Canvas, Desmos, Geogebra, and MyOpenMath, to name a few. By incorporating class discussions and open-ended questions as formative and summative assessments, I am able to facilitate an engaging and inquisitive atmosphere of mastery learning using principles of Personalized Learning, Universal Design and AVID methodologies. My students track their own data, set goals, learn how to work collaboratively and self-advocate academically, socially and emotionally.
